Mission

The School of Business Informatics is a unique institution for a virtual community of students all over the world. The school's mission is to provide first-class education in Business Informatics making use of state-of-the-art multimedia, Internet, and distance education technologies.

Information technology (IT) is one of the drivers for success in today's global economy. Technology alone, however, does not create business value, rather it is the synergy from IT and management that does. Business Informatics is the field where integration of information technology and management concepts has been the guiding principle for many years. Students will learn how to use information technology effectively to develop business solutions for today's global challenges.

The school's programs and courses are taught by recognized experts from European universities. Most of them are full professors at those universities, willing to combine their expertise in different areas to form unique new distance education programs. They are determined to ensure excellence in education. Students can study at their homes or workplaces, avoiding additional traveling and living expenses. Still they will get the same high-quality education as students at European universities do.

The school offers certificate courses, mini programs and a full master program — the International Master of Business Informatics (MBI) program. All are based on the Internet and commonly available information and communication technology. Courses are given entirely, or are substantially supported, by means of electronic media. Despite the geographical distances between physical locations, interaction among students and teachers in this virtual program will be quite close. The faculty of the School of Business Informatics will ensure that all students receive individual support.

MBI program

The MBI program is delivered through a cooperation between VGU and the European University Viadrina.

The MBI program was initially developed in English under a grant by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research in the program "New media in education". Starting in summer semester 2010, the MBI program can be studied as a German language program as well.
