Study modes

The MBI program can be studied full-time or part-time, either as a 100 % distance-education program or in blended mode.

Distance-learning mode

Studying in this mode involves three things every week throughout the semester:

1. Studying the weekly course materials on the Internet
2. Solving the associated exercises and problems
3. Interacting with lecturers and other students

Courses are based on multimedia technologies including web lecturing, video and audio streaming, hypermedia documents (web pages), podcasting, and animation (see details). Close interaction between teachers and students is very important and encouraged. Electronic media like discussion forum, chat room, bulletin board, e-mail, etc. are used to support personal interaction.

Blended-learning mode I

Some courses are available as classroom courses at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). You spend one semester (usually the first) at the European University Viadrina, take some face-to-face courses, and study the rest of the program via Internet.

ERP/SCM track (blended-learning mode II)

Students interested to set a focus of their studies on enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) can extend the blended-learning period to two semesters, taking more courses taught face-to-face at the European University Viadrina.

Student visa

If you wish to study in the blended mode, you may need a student visa for Germany. For exact information, please contact a German consulate in your home country. Visa application processing takes a minimum of six weeks.

Full-time vs. part-time studies

Full-time

As a full-time program, the MBI starts each year in October and takes two years/four semesters to complete. Three semesters are dedicated to taking courses (five courses per semester) while the fourth semester is reserved for the master's thesis and an internship or a project (see the curriculum) .

Part-time

If you study part-time, the duration of the program depends on the number of courses you take per semester. Part-time means that you do not study all five courses per semester but only two or three, for example. In this way, a maximum of individual flexibility is granted. The minimum number of courses in the first semester is two.

In the part-time mode, the program will take longer to complete, depending on the number of courses per semester. Please note that according to the MBI curriculum some courses are provided only every other semester.
